376. Richard Bennett

Richard was a soldier in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina, serving under
Capt. Thomas Clark, and was paid for his services Nov. 15, 1783. Certificate
No. 89843 was issued to him (see p. 4, "Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina
in the American Revolution"). He was commissioned an Ensign June 13, 1801. He
moved from Robeson Co., NC to Effingham Co., GA late 1780's. He received a
land grant in 1793 in Effingham County, which was cut into Bulloch County in
1796. He moved to Bryan County in 1794 and to Appling County in 1819, settling
near the Altamaha River. This part was cut into Wayne County. He died there
in 1830 and is buried near Jesup, GA.
